Eighteen years old does not an adult make

Please be aware that just because someone is able to vote and fight for our country that does not make them able to make sound decisions. I know this is hard to comprehend, but let me explain.

While on a 10 day road trip to Southern California with the softball team I learned a lot about the world. This is for many reasons, but this is the best story out of the whole week. Yes, it was the world's longest road trip, one that I am so grateful that I never have to do again. We had a girl on our team who's name will remain anonymous, but to you she will be called Poor Thing (or PT for short). The first few days of the trip went off without any major problems, except for the fact that we were playing in a tournament at San Diego State University and our assistant coach accidentally booked us into a hotel in Escondido (30+ miles away). Not a huge deal, we really didn't even notice until we were passing Mirimar AFB. Um, kind of far away.

The area of Escondido we stayed in wasn't the worst area, nor was it the best. We had a free day where the girls could do whatever they wanted. The team manager and I decided we wanted to go to the beach, the girls decided they wanted to hang out and go to the mall, the coaches probably just drank themselves sane. Curfew for the girls was 10:00pm. Everything went OK, or so I thought. The next day I learn the story of the night before. It goes a little something like this...

PT and her roommie were hanging out in some of the other girls' rooms the night before and put the little latch thing over before shutting the door. (**You know what I'm talking about, that little brass latch they used to replaced the chain, we all do it when we go get ice so we don't have to take our room keys). Anyway, the girls must have forgotten to move the latch before going to bed. PT woke up in the middle of the night, text her boyfriend, and went to the bathroom. While on her way to the bathroom she noticed something in the corner that wasn't there before. She thought it was a tall plant (I'm picturing a tacky fake ficus tree, insert your own tall plant), she went over to the plant, touched it. She noticed it wasn't a plant at all, but a man. She didn't think anything of this and continued to the bathroom. While on her way back to bed the man started talking to her in an obscene way. Her roommate thought PT had brought a guy back to their room to have a little fun so she pulled the covers over her head. PT was very polite to the guy and said please, thank you, excuse me, etc. Her parents would be very proud of her manners.

After the creepy guy got frustrated because PT wouldn't sleep with him, he left the room. They went to the only guy that was on the trip with us, the assistant coach. He calmed them down, searched their room, and assured them everything was OK. He went to the front desk to call the cops, but the guy at the front desk talked him out of it. Saying there was nothing the cops would do. Now you may be asking yourself why he didn't wake up the head coach and alert her there was a creep on the loose. That question still remains a mystery. The next morning he told the girls to talk to the head coach. They did, when the head coach found out she was irate. As anyone would be. The front desk said that the security cameras weren't working so they couldn't be sure who it was. The girls said the guy was a Hispanic, the front desk worker was a Hispanic. The girls swear they shut their door, the front desk guy said that there was no key activity to their room all night so they must not have shut their door. My opinion is he's hiding something. But that's neither here nor there.

So, the funny part of the story is that when the rest of the team asked PT why she didn't scream when she realized there was a man in her room, her reply was "I thought he was fixing the fridge." Um, we didn't have fridges in our room and what repair man works at 2am in a dark room?! Seriously! This girl is out in the real world, probably reproducing and making more genius babies to infest this world.

  1. Geez! These kids AMAZE me!
I guess they're not old enough to have developed the paranoia to check and double check all the locks on the doors before they go to bed...
But then not to break into a blood curdling scream when she realized there's a man in her room... She needs to watch more slasher movies!
