When athletes get bloody noses, we have this wonderful invention called a nose plug. Think of a tampon but for your nose. It's great. Athletes love them because you can just shove this tampon-like invention up your nose and continue playing.
We had a foreign exchange student get a bloody nose once. The coach explained that he needed to put this up his nose and he could continue participating in the sporting event. Coach forgot all about the bloody nose and went on about his life. A few days later the athlete comes to the nurse stating his nose hurt. She looks up his nose and yes, there is the nose plug still in his nose. He didn't know that he could take his nose plug out of his nose once he stopped bleeding - coach neglected to explain that part thinking it was common sense. (With athletes nothing is common sense) The nurse proceeds to take the nose plug out and send the athlete on his way.
Later the coach was telling me about the incident. We were laughing. His response "I was really worried about toxic shock syndrome!"
